Electonric Games 365 - Video Games Top Wish Lish

A recent poll conducted by KRC Research, commissioned by the Entertainment Software Association, found 42 percent of those surveyed will give or hope to receive a computer, or console of related software for the holidays. The poll also found that 52 percent believe that with the shaky economy, video games are a good option for family entertainment this holiday season.
These numbers represent a 9 percent increase over 2008 and the research backed up the fact that both men and women enjoy computer and video games almost equally. Forty-seven percent identified women as recipients of such gifts, a 31 percent increase from 2008. Fifty-Four percent of those who play computer and video games also plan to play with a friend or family member during the holiday season - according to those surveyed.
Video games and PC games are topping holiday lists because they provide a superior entertainment value for the whole family. With 68 percent of American households playing computer and video games, U.S. consumers value the creative and innovative products the entertainment software industry produces. They are seeking them out for themselves and to give as gifts.

The national telephone poll, conducted for the ESA by KRC Research, surveyed 1,001 U.S. adults, between November 4 and 8, 2009.

Electronic Games 365 - A long way since 1978

We have come a long way with electronic games since the breakthrough technology of 1978. Some of us remember the days of Pong. Look at a modern video game and see the progress we have made. No longer just a simple version of table tennis but complex and new worlds were you can become an athelete, soldier, race car driver, or almost anything you want to become. Think of were we could go another 30 years from today.

Electronic Games 365 - Will Christmas Season Save Video Game Publishers?

The holiday season is d-day for video game publishers. There banking on a slew of big releases to make up for lackluster sales this year. The holiday shopping season is the strongest time of year for video game manufacturers historically.

Big price cuts from video game console makers Nintendo Co, Microsoft Corp and Sony Corp expect to help boost software sales, but the results have been disheartening so far.

Overall industry sales in the United States -- the world's largest games market -- are down 13 percent this year, according to research group NPD. But some of the biggest releases -- such as the latest in the Call of Duty shooter franchise -- are expected to break sales records once they hit store shelves.

There's a dark cloud hanging over the industry because of the recession and Wall Street will be gauging consumer sentiment heading into the industry's most important selling season, as game publishers led by Activision Blizzard Inc report quarterly results starting next week.
